Mentioned in Trip Advisor's rising destinations for 2018, Gdansk is ranked number one for Europe as well as in the top 5 for World destinations.
Before it came up on Sky-scanner as a cheap destination, I'd honestly not heard much about it, and with further Google Image searching we soon found pictures of beautiful rainbow like buildings that are similar to those in other parts of Europe. It ended up being a location that myself and my boyfriend were very eager to visit, not just for the price, but as neither of us had ever visited Poland before and it was aside from the more popular Warsaw and Krakow.

We stayed in Gdansk for a wonderful 5 nights and ended up getting great flights, and the whole trip costing under £400 for the paid of us. Everyday was fun-packed and heavy on exploring all we would. That being said, a lot of research went in before hand on Gdansk, through websites, YouTube videos and blogposts, although the last two were very far and few between and had to use a range of sources to build up a bit of knowledge. I therefore felt I should make a blog post with a few travelling trips so if you are visiting, this will be a great starting point for some information, since it is such a growing destination.
First and foremost some quick tips if you don't want to spoil it to much by looking at the below images...
- In terms of airport transport, taxis seemed slightly more expensive than what Ubers were, and as I was already familiar with Uber and had it downloaded, we utilised this to and from.
- Try to always have exact change with you if you are going to use public transport. Trains not so much, but with buses and trams if you don't have the exact coins, no change is given, which can be slightly annoying if you don't realise before hand.
- 1-2 nights is not enough time! Of course if that's all the time you have then that's understandable but if you have the choice, definitely go for at least 3! Gdansk has a lot to see, and trips to do especially those just outside the city which I will go into later.
- We found a few restaurants to close at around 10/half 10 so stay aware of this just in case you fancy a late evening meal.
- The exchange from £ to PLN was around 5X, meaning that £1 would average to about £5.
- They spoke exceptional English in every place we went, without any struggle or misunderstanding at all.
- If you head over in Early Spring, be prepared for cold weather BUT also be prepared for some potential warm spells...We went across the Easter weekend 2018, and had 6 degrees one day followed by 21 degrees the next!
- Lastly...Do as much as possible! Embrace Gdansk for all it has to offer, and come with no expectations. It's a city that will most certainly blow you away.
Below, are some images from our trip of places visited, that I would definitely recommend visiting if you get the opportunity to visit Gdansk!
